Lena Platonos sets Emily Dickinson to music
Lena Platonos’ love for the American poetess Emily Dickinson is not strange. Not at all. Dickinson, the poetess that died in 1886 at the age of 55, was writing with staccato laconic lines, having a tremendous touch with her inner self, living almost isolated in her room with her sociability more or less, non-existent. A true eccentric artist of her times. Just like Lena Platonos: a unique case of artist that can not fit in conventional genres and styles, ahead of her times, individualistic, authentic in a world that surrounds her, in which she tastes, feels and senses things that very few have the ability to share with her. “Although Dickinson spent the most of her time at home, due to her nervous breakdown, she was in touch with the external and internal reality, tremendously sensitive in the big issues of human existence, of love and of death, issues that penetrate the biggest bulk of her work”. Platonos’ words for Dickinson are the most convincing indication of the fascination she feels about the poetess. Such titles as “I Hide Myself Within My Flower”, “Heart, We Will Forget Him!” and “There Is Another Sky” spread the odour of lyricism and the sad isolation as well as the envision of her soul. Because Hope Is The Τhing With Feathers, indeed.

Lena Platonos is one of these idiosyncratic artists that address a universal audience (crowds not encircled in specific borders) and echo their truth in every platitude. Of course, retrospectively she was recognized and rewarded with the reissues of her albums by the American label Dark Entries in San Francisco appealing in an audience that looks beyond the horizons of avant garde. Lena Platonos has indeed managed to make a difference in the Greek music scene with her bold, futuristic sound and her tendency to the electronic music and she has succeeded in that, one more time
“Hope Is The Τhing With Feathers” is an album that finds Platonos using English lyrics for the first time in her career. Athina Routsi and Sissy Rada sing her songs and the album is out by Amour Records.

Η Λένα Πλάτωνος μελοποιεί Emily Dickinson

Δεν είναι καθόλου περίεργη η αγάπη της Λένας Πλάτωνος για την Αμερικανίδα ποιήτρια Emily Dickinson. Η Dickinson που πέθανε στα 55 χρόνια της το 1886, έγραφε με κοφτές λακωνικές γραμμές, είχε τρομερή επαφή με τον εσωτερικό της κόσμο, ζούσε απομονωμένη σχεδόν στο δωμάτιό της και η κοινωνικότητά της ήταν σχεδόν ανύπαρκτη. Μία γνήσια εκκεντρική καλλιτέχνιδα της εποχής της. Όπως ακριβώς και η Πλάτωνος δηλαδή. Μία μοναδική περίπτωση καλλιτέχνιδας που δεν γίνεται να καταχωρηθεί σε κανένα είδος, πρωτοποριακή και ιδιαίτερη, αυθεντική και με ένα κόσμο που την περιβάλλει στον οποίο γεύεται, νοιώθει και κοιτάζει ερεθίσματα που ελάχιστοι έχουν την ικανότητα να μοιραστούν μαζί της. «Παρόλο που η Ντίκινσον περνούσε τον περισσότερο καιρό στο σπίτι της, λόγω νευρικού κλονισμού, ήταν σε μεγάλο βαθμό σε επαφή με την εξωτερική και εσωτερική της πραγματικότητα, ήταν εκπληκτικά ευαίσθητη στα μεγάλα ζητήματα της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης, του Έρωτα και του Θανάτου στην οποία αφιερώνεται το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της δουλειάς της". Τα λόγια της Πλάτωνος για την Dickinson αποτελούν την πιο πειστική ένδειξη για την γοητεία που έχει της έχει ασκήσει η ποιήτρια. Τίτλοι όπως “I Hide Myself Within My Flower”, “Heart, We Will Forget Him!” και “There Is Another Sky” αναδίνουν την οσμή του λυρισμού και της μελαγχολικής απομόνωσης αλλά και του οραματισμού. Διότι πράγματι “η ελπίδα είναι ένα πράγμα με φτερά”.

Η Λένα Πλάτωνος είναι από εκείνες τις ιδιοσυγκρασιακές καλλιτέχνιδες που απευθύνονται σε παγκόσμιο ακροατήριο (και όχι σε περιχαρακωμένα μέσα σε συγκεκριμένα σύνορα πλήθη) και απηχεί την αλήθεια της παγκόσμια. Φυσικά αυτό, έστω και αναδρομικά, επιβραβεύτηκε με τις επανακυκλοφορίες δίσκων της από την αμερικανική εταιρία Dark Entries του San Francisco και την θριαμβική αποδοχή τους από ένα κοινό που βλέπει και πάνω από τον ορίζοντα της avant garde. Η Λένα Πλάτωνος έχει πραγματοποιήσει τομή στην ελληνική δισκογραφία με τον τολμηρό, φουτουριστικό ήχο της και την κλίση της στην ηλεκτρονική μουσική και αυτό πραγματοποιεί για μια ακόμα φορά.

Το “Hope Is The Τhing With Feathers” είναι ένα album που για πρώτη φορά στην δισκογραφία της Πλάτωνος χρησιμοποιεί αγγλικούς στίχους. Η ερμηνεία των τραγουδιών είναι της Αθηνάς Ρούτση και της Sissi Rada και η κυκλοφορία πραγματοποιείται από την Amour Records.
